3 Simple Mindset Shifts That Can Help You Improve Health
Do you ever find yourself caught up in thoughts like, “I'm too busy to exercise,” or “My pain is a constant barrier to living a healthy lifestyle, so I've given up trying?” If so, I encourage you to consider approaching the healing process from a fresh perspective.
In my early 20s, I suffered from chronic pain throughout my body that manifested as tension and IBS-like symptoms. I encountered nothing but dead ends despite seeking help from various professionals. Undeterred, I decided to take healing into my own hands.
And today, I’ll share with you the three mindset shifts that have empowered me to feel young, healthy, and vital in my body, with the hope that they can serve as a starting point for your own transformative journey.
Pain Is Information. Don’t Run Away From It
Allow me to start with an unconventional opinion: Pain isn't the villain, it’s information.
What do I mean by that?
Although we’ve been taught to fear it, numb it with drugs, or steer clear of certain activities altogether, it’s important to recognize pain as a message. It’s your body’s way of communicating with you to get your attention amidst life’s chaos. So try to approach pain not with dread but with curiosity.
For example, the next time you feel a headache coming on, consider taking a moment before reaching for that bottle of Advil. Take a few deep breaths and tune into your body. Notice where the pain is located, its intensity, and any accompanying sensations or feelings. Reflect on what might have triggered the headache – was it stress, lack of sleep, dehydration, or something else entirely?
By doing so, you give yourself the opportunity to understand the underlying cause of your pain, foster a deeper connection with your body, and take proactive steps towards better health.
There's a Profound Link Between Emotional Wellness and Physical Health
Experiencing an upset stomach or fatigue following a conflict at work is something we can all relate to. Conversely, dealing with chronic pain, such as arthritis or back issues, can lead to feelings of frustration, limitations in daily activities, and concerns about future health, ultimately contributing to anxiety.
The key takeaway here is that the connection between our physical well-being and emotional wellness runs deep: What's happening in our bodies has a direct impact on our mental state, and vice versa.
Therefore, it’s important to adopt a holistic approach towards better health, which is why I turned to fascia in my 20s and have continued to prioritize it ever since.
Fascia, a connective tissue that surrounds the entire body, can store memories of past traumas and emotions, manifesting as physical tension and discomfort. Through stretching and strengthening your fascia, you can gradually release the tension, promote relaxation, improve mobility, and boost overall health.

What Works for Other People Doesn’t Have To Work for You
Despite being taught to strictly adhere to certain principles, I found that listening to what felt right for my body led to noticeable improvements in my well-being. This realization encouraged me to challenge conventional methods and explore alternatives in my quest for healing.
So don’t feel discouraged if practicing pilates doesn’t bring you closer to your weight loss goal or if lower back stretches don’t reduce pain. Keep experimenting until you find what truly resonates with your body even if it might take time and perseverance. Trusting your intuition and understanding your body's signals will eventually guide you to a healthier place.
