GST SOMACHOLOGY & SOUL™
Life can be distilled down into two elements: force and motion.
Force sets us into motion whether by externally pushing and pulling us – dancing, sports, sex – or by internal e-motion (energy in motion in Greek!) initiated by the mental stress of daily living. This movement is elemental – it’s life. Yet, modern practices of exercise and fitness define movement as crunches, sit-ups, lunges and squats – as purely a physical thing – and though this is exercise, it’s not movement.
There’s a big difference.
True movement is more than just us responding to force but an inherent part of our design – a unique expression of ourselves painted onto the canvas of life.
MOVE DEEPER INTO FASCIA
As we move, fascia is responding, receiving and reacting the same way to both our internal stresses and external forces. The brain makes a literal chemical cocktail of experience for both. The cocktail is sent through your tissues, making fascia contract and animate your experiences into movement. Fascia is imprinted with active memory of that movement. As we grow and live, all our movement experiences and emotional issues aren’t just received, connected and translated, but etched into our tissues. Like rings in a tree, our bodies tell the narrative of our lives over time.
So by working with fascia, we learn the truth of who we are and use this information to know ourselves more intimately to then make active, intentional changes in our lives.
THE BODY’S ORGAN OF CONSCIOUSNESS
Culturally, when we talk about consciousness, we’re typically only referring to our brain. And while our brain is the organ of mind consciousness, fascia is the organ of body consciousness. This is the missing piece of knowledge that connects body care to soul care.
With three times as many receptors as any other tissue, fascia is the master collector sending every ounce of our external and internal movement experiences to the insula part of our brain. Along with signals collected from our gut, heart, lungs and other organs, this information is routed to the insula where we experience a world of conscious and subjective intangibles – things like love and hate, pride and humiliation, truthfulness and deception. The insula informs our sense of self in relationship to “other” – our self consciousness.
When fascia expands, all of those things that are a part of our consciousness expand, too. By actually stretching fascia and expanding our insides, sensors have more space to collect more life experiences. When we get more of those, our aperture for understanding widens into more conscious clarity about who we are.
Ultimately, somachology is all about learning who we are through fascia and using our physical bodies as a way to know, cultivate and feed the self and soul. While we spread and move our fascia, not only do we heal our bodies, but do the same for our souls.
THE CLASS & PROGRAM
When you think something with your mind, it’s just a thought – a one-way circuit, but with fascia, you don’t get responses unless it’s actual because it’s a two-way circuit between body and brain. So, if you’re not literally doing something different, you don’t change.
This is what our GST Somachology & Soul sessions are all about: doing something different to be something different.
We use the same GST technologies to move from body to being, to dig into our body narrative so our fascia has a chance to speak its imprints and pains. Listening in this way is the deepest connection fascia can make and is the missing piece in modern ideas about health and wellness.
The focus is to take you into a clearer mind by opening up your body. When you clear out the fascia static of unmetabolized emotions, psychological stresses, body stories and clutter, you can change your actions in the world. You end up feeling a lightness of being, a clarity of mind, a stillness of spirit, but you do it through the body which gives better results.
